BIO

Danielle (Dede) Brown

(b. 1984, Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas)

Dede Brown is an interdisciplinary artist working across painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, and installation.

Born in Freeport and raised in Nassau, she studied at SCAD in Savannah, Georgia, earning a BFA in Interior Design with a minor in Photography. For the past fifteen years, she has worked as a freelance artist, designer, and photographer. Her work includes three permanent sculptures—two at the Nassau Airport and one at Baha Mar Resorts. She has held three solo exhibitions, participated in numerous group exhibitions in The Bahamas, the U.S., and France, and attended three international artist residencies.

Through social experiences and observation, Dede explores themes of identity, history, and femininity, particularly within The Bahamas and the broader Caribbean. Her work examines the complexities of human nature, often depicting bold portraits of ephemeral sea deities as a way of questioning and revealing the human experience. She views the artistic process as a transformative and healing force.

Her inspirations span a wide range of influences, including colour trends, graphic design, film, music, fashion, pop and drag culture, editorial and portrait photography, and the seaside environment of her home in Eleuthera.

Dede currently resides in Spanish Wells, Eleuthera, where she works from her home-based studio.
